Welcome to FAKTMAP! By using this service, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using FAKTMAP, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Your continued use constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

2. User Conduct – What You CAN Do

• ✅ Post interesting, educational, or entertaining facts.
• ✅ Share historical events, scientific discoveries, local legends.
• ✅ Use the map to explore and learn about the world.
• ✅ Vote on facts (Like or Dislike).

3. User Conduct – What You CANNOT Do

• 🚫 DOXING – STRICTLY FORBIDDEN
  Posting any personal information including:
  • Home addresses
  • Phone numbers, emails, social media profiles
  • Full names with identifying details
  • Any information that could identify a real person
• 🚫 HARASSMENT & BULLYING – No targeting individuals or groups with abusive content.
• 🚫 ILLEGAL CONTENT – No content that violates US, EU, or international law.
• 🚫 SPAM & MISINFORMATION – No fake facts, misleading information, or promotional spam.
• 🚫 OFFENSIVE CONTENT – No hate speech, racism, sexism, or discriminatory language.

4. Content Moderation & Removal

• We reserve the right to remove any content at any time, without notice, for any reason (or no reason).
• If you post personal information (doxing), we will:
  • Immediately delete the content from the map
  • Remove all other facts posted by you if necessary
• Note: We use anonymous user IDs and do not store IP addresses. We cannot permanently ban users because we don't have registration or personal identification — but we can and will remove violating content.
• Additionally, all facts are automatically screened by our AI moderation (Gemini) to detect and remove prohibited content before it becomes visible.

5. User Accounts & Data

• We use an anonymous user ID (stored in a cookie) to identify your facts. We do not ask for names, emails, or phone numbers unless you voluntarily register an account.
• If you register, you are responsible for all content posted under your account.
• You can delete your own facts at any time using the "Delete" button.
• We reserve the right to delete all facts associated with a banned user.

6. Copyright & Intellectual Property

• You retain ownership of the facts you post. However, by posting, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to display, store, and distribute your content on FAKTMAP.
• Do not post content that infringes on someone else's copyright.

7. Third-Party Services

FAKTMAP uses third-party services:

• Maplibre GL – open-source map library.
• Render – hosting provider. Your use of FAKTMAP is also subject to Render's Terms of Service.
• Aiven – database provider.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

• FAKTMAP is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without any warranties of any kind.
• We do not guarantee that the service will be error-free, secure, or uninterrupted.
• We are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of user-submitted content.

9. Limitation of Liability

• To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of FAKTMAP.
• This includes, but is not limited to: direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.
• You assume all risks associated with using the site.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. By continuing to use the service, you accept the current version.

12. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
